couture REVIVAL

One of the jobs I worked on earlier this year that I was most excited about
was a series of illustrations for UK magazine The Hub.
I got to illustrate several of my absolute favourite collections,
including Chanel S/S 10, Alexander McQueen S/S 11 and
THAT pearl encrusted Givenchy that Natasha Poly wore
in the S/S 11 collection.






I have to say, this was one of my favourite jobs ever - purely because
I got to draw something that I love so much.
It's literally mixing business with pleasure!
Not to mention the fact that this issue of The Hub is pretty damn amazing.
It features one of my FAVOURITE illustrators of all time,
David Downton (who also did the cover illustration),
Christian Louboutin, Anna Dello Russo, David Bowie, Miuccia Prada.
Marc Jacobs, and more illustration work from Cecilia Carlstedt
(another of my all time faves!)

rip McQUEEN

Alexander McQueen S/S 10

I woke up this morning to find out about Alexander McQueen
and i'm so unbelievably sad about what's happened.
We can never truly understand another person's view of the world,
especially one who is drawn to depression, but the growing
number of people in this industry going before their time
is extremely worrying, and deeply saddening.

I first heard about McQueen back in 1998 when he designed Kate Winslet's
wedding dress, as well as her Oscar gown. (Winslet obsessed. I tell you!)
He had such a strong aesthetic even then, and it has only continued to grow
and develop into one of the most recogniseable on the runway.
Such a mad genius! Such a brilliant designer!
All I can say is that I hope he rests in peace.
The fashion world will continue to admire his
amazing designs for decades and decades to come.
