Mother Nature's Gift

Vogue U.K. (Dec. '09) shares my sentiments...

My mom finally dyed her hair brown. After years of having it highlighted blonde, she's gone back to her natural shade. I've been urging her to join the dark side for many years now. Seven to be exact, because that's when I first saw the beauty of being a brunette. On my honeymoon, I bought a bottle of drugstore hair dye, that I assumed was closest to my natural shade, and said goodbye to my years of paying too much for highlights, goodbye to the brassiness, and goodbye to looking just like all the other girls in my college classes. So what you see now, is all me including a few random grey hairs that I've had since childhood (thank you dad!).

Of course I get the urge to dye or bleach my hair, after all I remember how fun it was exploring all the many shades offered, but sometimes I just feel that people should embrace what nature gave them. And the older I get, the more accepting I am of my self-perceived flaws. I'm learning to love my crooked front teeth, my poor eyesight, my wavy light brown hair, my many moles and hairy arms. Because what the hell, those flaws make me Me and make me unique.

So I encourage you all to embrace the flaws that make you You.
