diana FERRARI

I've been meaning to post about this for a while now,
but I have been a bit slack with my blog of late!

I recently worked on some illustrations for Diana Ferrari's new website.
It was so much fun to draw a pair of shoes for a change!
I think I need to illustrate more objects in the future.
You have no idea how many bags and perfume bottles I have in my possession!

These beautiful heels are called 'Pearla' and available now.
You can also find the printed 'Cindy' dress in stores and online.

    I hope you like!

    Happy Wednesday-Hump-Day.

blink BEAUTY

Sometimes when you work on commercial illustrations,
it takes so long for the final product to come out (whatever form that might be)
that you completely forget about it!
I worked on this illustration back in March,
but only just thought to check the website and there it was looking at me :)

This illo was for a beauty parlour called Blink in the US,
and I loved working on it so much.
I was given a really open brief and just a few stylistic notes to work to.
The client wanted a really classic illustration, almost Audrey Hepburn-esque,
that would still look contemporary and fresh to appeal to their client base.
My thought was to go for a really clean, vintage beauty look.
Full, shaped, eyebrows, well defined eyes and a strong lip.
And of course, no one can resist a large bushel of pink and red posies!

I really hope you like it, it's definitely a recent fave.

If you happen to be reading this from Minnesota -
then go visit Brook and Christina
at Blink for some pampering! :)

    Enjoy the weekend everyone x

ageless beauty for IN STYLE UK

I was asked by the lovely Adele from In Style UK
to work on this illustration of four ageless style icons
for a story on the resurgence of the more mature woman
    in the fashion industry today.
You can't open a magazine without the beautiful eyes of
Claudia Schiffer, Kristen McMenamy or Helena Christensen
staring back at you, and Viv Groskop's article explores why.
But for that you'll need to pick up an copy of the April edition
with Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover!

As for the illustration we focused on these four amazing women.
    From L-R:

    Anna Dello Russo -
    Current editor-at-large of Vogue Nippon
and one of the most adventurous dressers in the world.
If anyone knows how to have fun with fashion its Anna!
(Have to give snaps to the lovely Jenn of LeFashion for
letting me use her photograph of Anna from NYFW as inspiration!)

    Elle McPherson -
    Is any introduction necessary?
Arguably the most famous body in the modelling industry.
And she's STILL got it (as witnessed on the runway of Louis Vuitton!)
    Flawless.

    Julianne Moore -
The muse of Tom Ford and face of Bulgari.
You can always count on Julianne to bring something interesting
to a red carpet event. I absolutely adored her in this pink
Lanvin gown at the 2011 Golden Gloves.

    Lauren Hutton -
Before Lara Stone, Vanessa Paradis and Georgia Jagger,
    there was Lauren Hutton.
Her gap is her trademark. Truly truly stunning.

    It was such an honour to be given such beautiful women to illustrate;
I had so much fun working on it.
    Thanks Adele!

    with my Japan fundraiser!

arise MAGAZINE

    Quick post today!
The sun is shining and I want to get outside :)

I wanted to share this illo I did for UK magazine, Arise,
which accompanied an article about jewellery designer, Chris Aire.
I was directed to incorporate a 1940's Hollywood theme,
    very silver screen, very glamourous.
I hope I pulled it off!
The jewels themselves were photographed and placed over my drawing.

If anyone wants to track down the mag itself, it's issue 10,
with the gorgeous Alek Wek on the cover!

it's a BRAVE NEW WORLD

So today I can finally share something that i've been working on
    with you guys! Hooray!

Before Christmas I was working on a brand new window
display for General Pants Co. to launch the Autumn season.
Titled, A Brave New World, they wanted me to get a little bit
creepy, trippy and wild with it!

I wanted to share both the original artwork and the final display
for those who may be interested in the process of developing a
campaign or display beyond the final artwork stage to the point of bringing
people into the store - something that I enjoyed learning about.
As much as I love my white space, it does not bring people in.
You need to get a little bit crazy, bold and eye catching.

As you can see my work was pushed even further by lovely GP designer,
Aly Clarke, into a more colourful and phsycadellic Wonderland.
I'm so happy with how it turned out.
    Hope you guys like it!
And if you happen to be maxing your plastic fantastic any time soon,
make sure you wander past your local General Pants store!
    XxX

P.S Check out the General Pants WEBSITE to see the artwork
come to life! It looks amazing! (I didn't do it - i'm not that clever!)
But animation always excites me :)

P.P.S Models originally photographed by Ben Sullivan.

Random Wednesdays

Ha, I'm making a weird face. My sister-in-law bought this hat in Russia years ago on her high school study abroad:

I haven't heard this song in over ten years. It was playing in our favorite Ann Arbor restaurant last night and I suddenly remembered how much I loved it:

Does everyone like that my comments are now in their own pop-up window or did you prefer the embedded comments?

    P.S. Holiday Look #4 tomorrow!

the NEW TRIBES

    Shop 'Til You Drop
    November 2009

Today is one of those fun days where I actually get to show you guys
something that i've been working on for a while!
I recently started working with the lovely Brooke Bickmore at
Shop 'Til You Drop on a series of monthly illustrations
that feature in the new Q&A section of the magazine.
But last month Brooke commissioned some more illos for a story about
the 'new tribes' of dressers these days which
appears in the November issue, on sale today.
Think of yourself channelling the Olsen twins, Blair Waldorf, Kate Moss or
Gwyneth Paltrow and you may fall into one of the above categories!
This was SUPER fun to work on and i'm excited to finally
see it in print and share it with you guys!

I'll post more about the monthly illustrations in the next few days.

Also big thanks to everyone who left a question on the below post.
I'll probably wait a week or so to answer so if you still have a Q
then feel free to leave a comment here.

Hope you all had great weekends!
    Xx

show PONY

Another commission for hair product label,
    Show Pony Professional.

I was asked to turn Macushla Burke's luscious photograph
into an illustration to be used for packaging and promotion
and to also incorporate a pony into the mix.
I used to LOVE my toy carousel when I was little,
(and to be honest I still get excited when I see the big
versions at theme parks and shows)
so I wanted to go with that idea with the crown.

Hope the weather isn't as dismal for all of you
as it is here for me. It has been raining non stop all day.
I could probably go swimming in my backyard!

Commissioned Portrait: Bailey

    Bailey 06.11.09

Bailey was a wonderful dog to draw. Her fur alone provided hours of fun. It was quite a challenge trying to capture her tri-colored fluffiness. Sadly, Bailey has passed on, so I hope that this portrait can help her owners remember the good times.

    Packaging

New packaging for my Lulu Letty Etsy shop:
    1. Acid free, archival quality resealable cello bag with LL sticker. Behind that, cardboard insert wrapped in acid free, archival quality tissue paper.
    2. Finished portrait safe in it's acid free packaging.
    3. Black and white tissue papered and grosgrain ribbon wrapped package.
    4. Close-up of LL business card.

    Bow teeny

So, let me know what you all think about the portrait and packaging. I'm always open to suggestions and helpful criticism.

    Bow teeny

Oh, and I keep forgetting to mention that ModCloth listed me as a style inspiration on Tuesday!! I was so proud and honored! I felt quite cool. ;)

the waiting GAME

    Vogue Australia July 2009

I was super flattered to be asked by Vogue Australia
to do an illustration for the article 'The Waiting Game.'
It's all about the obsession with each season's current
'IT' item and the resulting waiting list that comes with it.

Outfits/pieces featured from left to right:
    Alexander Wang (Denim Bag)
    Yves Saint Laurent (Cage Boots)
    Balmain (THAT Military Jacket)
    Christopher Kane (Dress)

Speaking of TO DIE FOR items, I spent a hefty chunk of my
day looking through the Chanel website and drooling over
every bag and every pair of shoes until I came to THESE:

Remember these? I posted a few weeks back about
Diane Kruger in Cannes and her amaaaaaazing shoes.
I'm not usually one to get all super excited about shoes
but Dear. God. I want these. I need these.
    I'll probably DREAM about these.
They were even used in a photo shoot on last night's
episode of Australia's Next Top Model.
    It's fate.

    ANYWAY
    - momentary shoe-induced lapse of concentration -
if you want to read the article click the image
to see a little snippet! Or go buy the mag for the rest :)

Aussie beauty Myf Shepard graces the cover
wearing Aussie label Romance Was Born.
It's all about the Aussie love!
